What Is Successful Communities Patton St. Project

Successful Communities is getting down to work. The organization is launching its pilot, The Patton st. project. The goal is to renovate an abandoned home in a forgotten community that will provide shelter to a legitimate refugee family seeking asylum.

Successful Communities, Inc is a non-profit organization that focuses on revitalizing forgotten neighborhoods through house rehabilitation, providing affordable housing, and integrating immigrants and asylum seekers into local communities.

The organization’s Patton st. project is the first step and the launch pad of its Four-Phase Comprehensive Assimilation Program, which will expand in the next phase to rehabilitate sixty homes in forgotten communities in Michigan and other states.

The Patton Project has four main goals:

  • Rehabilitate the very first home under Successful Communities program
  • House the first family program participant
  • Provide rent subsidies to the family program participant as well as social services provided by partner institutions.
  • Catalyze the fulfillment of the SC Four-Phase Comprehensive Assimilation Program.

How much will the Patton project cost?

Successful Communities can’t complete the project on its own. The Patton st. project is currently seeking to raise $75,000 to fully renovate a 1000 sq. ft. two-bedroom, two-bath home on Patton St. in Detroit.

In addition to the renovation, the budget will also cover:

  • Furnishings and appliances.
  • One year of rental subsidy.
  • Essential social services to the first family program participant.

The administrative cost is estimated to be around 9% of the total budget. It will cover the appropriate financial and program reporting requirements, insurance, legal expenses, and accounting and auditing costs.

In addition to financial support, the organization is exploring alternative sourcing options to cover the cost of the housing rehabilitation phase. This may include the donations of:

  • HVAC/Gas Furnace
  • Furnishing appliances
  • Construction from companies and grant providers ready to offer non-financial support to the organization and its program.

What is the selection process?

To identify the most deserving families, Successful Communities will work directly with partner institutions and organizations that provide temporary houses and provide human services to asylumists in the United States. Intended program beneficiaries must be referred and approved by institutional partners and must have undergone a thorough screening and vetting process.

To ensure the qualification of program participants and the overall success of the project, candidates will be undertaking the SC Comprehensive Intake Process. This process involves two steps. The first consists in reviewing pre-intake documents and attending intake interviews.
After a thorough assessment of the family’s potential to become self-sufficient and fully integrated within its new community, the selection process will then enter its second phase, where the chosen family will agree to a personalized Assimilation Adjustment Plan (AAP). The plan is designed based on the Initial Needs Assessment and will include employment, education, health, financial, and other services needed for personal and professional growth.

With your help and support, the Patton st project will be the first successful step in starting a new era in refugee support programs and community rejuvenation. The plan is ready, and the people in charge are motivated. All we require now is your support to turn the dream into reality. There’s no excuse to wait, refugees are suffering now, and every delay is just another day of Misery for them.
